Speak on the Spot

Have you ever been asked to give a two-minute introduction about yourself and you become speechless? It’s probably not because you don’t know yourself enough, but it’s often difficult to consolidate the information succinctly to give a coherent talk without much time to prepare.

In this fast-moving world, we are always required to be on our feet all the time. We are faced with ad-hoc interviews, discussions and debates where we have to be able to structure our talk quickly, present our points coherently, and most importantly convincingly.

Some may have the misconception that people who are able to talk with flair on the spot are simply gifted or it just ‘happens’ on stage. The truth is, in most cases, a lot of thought and practice have taken place behind the scene before it ‘happens’ on stage. There’s an old saying that says what happens on stage for one minute has actually come from ten years of hard work! It all boils down to the approach, methodology, being able to think out of the box, critical thinking, and then, practise makes perfect!

Being able to speak on the spot is not easy, but it’s certainly an essential life-skill to have.
