King’s Speech

King’s Speech‘ is one of my all-time favourites. It is a movie about speech, drama, elocution, but most of all, the life-long relationship of a teacher and student, the inspiration of a mentor that has brought the King’s voice to life.
In my many years of teaching, I’ve worked with many children. Each has his/ her unique character as well as needs. There were children who started off being ‘shy’, but the reason for their ‘shyness’ was mostly because they didn’t have the vocabulary or the right sort of encouragement to express themselves. But in an environment where they feel comfortable, they are gradually able to speak up; and with more exposure and experience, you see a twinkle in their eyes! When an individual finds his/ her voice, the whole being also comes alive. Children become happy, confident, presentable, and more often than not, they make more friends!

Throughout the years, I’ve cherished my class times with my students. Walking through different stages of life with them – training them, seeing them grow and excel… As they expand their minds, develop their critical thinking skills and have their confidence built through Speech and Drama, students are able to use the same solid foundation to develop their other skills and become all-rounded achievers!

It’s indeed an amazing journey walking and working with young people, much like the  journey of King George VI and Lionel Logue, which eventually turned into a life-long friendship.
